PHNOM PENH: The Government of Japan will provide US$252,136 in total for two recipient organizations under the framework, the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (“KUSANONE”).

 The Grant Contracts were signed today between Mr. TANINAI Ichitomo, Minister / Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan in the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the representatives of two recipients respectively, to carry out the following project.

1 . ‘The Project for Construction of Dormitory and Installment of Equipment at Prey Veng Physical Rehabilitation Center ’ (US$128,301)

Recipient: Prey Veng Physical Rehabilitation Center

This grant will be used to install 13 kinds of prosthesis manufacturing and rehabilitation equipment and to construct a dormitory with kitchen for patients who visit Prey Veng Physical Rehabilitation Center (PRC) in Prey Veng Province. The PRC has been facing challenges such as the deterioration of necessary equipment to produce prosthesis and orthotics, and the lack of capacity of current dormitory and the bad access to the toilet and main building. Through this project, it is expected to benefit around 850 patients annually with the improved facility and services.

2. ‘The Project for the Procurement of Medical Equipment at Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap Province’ (US$ 123,835)

Recipient: Angkor Hospital for Children

This grant will be used to procure 4 kinds of medical equipment (1 operation table, 1 cardiac monitor, 1 anesthesia machine, 2 syringe pumps) to improve the quality of emergency care at Angkor Hospital for Children. It would enhance the efficiency and productivity of medical staffs who treat children with critical conditions. Through the improved medical services, it is expected to benefit around 6,300 children annually.

Japan’s “KUSANONE” Projects started in Cambodia in 1991 in order to support Cambodia’s reconstruction and development at the grassroots level. The assistance aims to protect those who are vulnerable due to various factors such as poverty and misfortunes that directly hreaten their lives, livelihood, and dignity, as well as to promote self-reliance of local communities. Since 1991, the Government of Japan has provided over US$69 million for mainly local authorities and non-governmental organizations to implement 687 KUSANONE projects throughout Cambodia.
